Default 2005 Silverado speaker swap

Anyone changed out speaker in the ext cab before? Wondering what kind of job it is. Do the door panels come on/off without breaking anything?

get one of those tools to help pop the plastic clasp things, it is easier. I actually had mine done and they used one of those things. It looked easy! It took them 15 minutes to finish the job.

its not very hard i've done all the speakers in my 04 ext cab. the doors just have a bunch of metal clasps. the plastic that the metal sits in isnt very strong so dont be bummer if one or two break. just be gentle with the door panels when pulling off.

What did you use for speaker sizes? Looking through the grill it looks like there might be a 5 1/4 and a separate tweeter above it maybe??

Thanks guys! I got some Polk 6 1/2s and 4x6s coming from Crutchfield. Hopefully the make my factory stereo sound a little better for now. I'm not sure I want to replace it yet.

@tsduke, I did the same as you and replaced the factory speakers. I was going to replace the stereo but the wire harness and stereo kit you have to buy for our trucks are expensive. I have priced them for a 05 Chevy Silverado 1500 and the wire harness is $80-$90 and kit is like $20. That is over a $100 before you buy a stereo. My factory stereo does not even have a CD player, I am looking to buy a factory stereo with a cd player.
