Angry 2007 to 2010 Navigation Upgrade Problems

I just purchased a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado LTZ w/o navigation but it has the Bose premium speaker system. I wanted to add OEM navigation and after reading this forum I decided to add a 2010 navigation unit with USB support for my iPod. I also decided to replace my VCIM with a newer one that supports bluetooth and an XM module with UBS (NavTraffic).

After reading through the forum I determined this was possible and purchased the following parts from a local dealership:

VCIM Module w/Bluetooth p/n: 20783877
Bluetooth Antenna p/n: 15938939
Steering Wheel Switch p/n: 25851951
XM Module w/UBS p/n: 20883238

I also purchased a 2010 navigation unit with DVD from eBay:

Navigation Head Unit w/USB & DVD p/n: 20883054

I installed everything except the steering wheel switch. It was pretty easy once I found where everything was located. The XM module was the easiest, no tools required. It was located underneath the glove compartment and snaps in and out. The radio trim was difficult to remove, just cause I was afraid I'd break it. Once the radio and climate controls are removed I was able to find the VCIM, which is located under the radio. This was the hardest to remove, even though it too doesn't require tools. I discovered I could not install the new VCIM with the bluetooth antenna attached, but once in place I attached the antenna from the back. The gps antenna for the navigation unit is located under the front part of the dash.

Once installed I turned on my truck and as expected the OnStar light was red and the navigation unit started up with a GMC screen and when into Theft Lock. I took it to my dealer to reprogram the nav unit and remove the Theft Lock and this is where the trouble starts. The technician wasn't aware this was possible and wasn't sure how to program it. He tried setting it up as a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado and a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado. Now instead of the GMC screen I get the Chevy screen and instead of Theft Lock it shows the time. However, I can't turn the unit on. no button will get it off the time. Is my head unit defective (I was told it was brand new), or is it programmed wrong? Also, unit continues to sound like its on after the vehicle is turned off and the key removed and the screen goes dark, is this normal?

I have another appointment scheduled for Monday, so any help I can get would be appreciated. Below are what I think are the relevant RPO code for my vehicle:

U2K (replaced with new XM module)
UE1 (replaced with new VCIM)
UK6
UQA
US9 (replaced with new nav unit)

I would like the nav unit to be programmed to work correctly with the bluetooth VCIM, XM w/NavTraffic and add a backup camera (later). Can someone tell me the Tech-II programming steps so that the technician can set it up properly?

Does he program it as a 2007 or a 2010 Silverado?

From what I have learned the DVD wasn't available in 2007 does this matter?

Does he set the program up for my VIN or a newer VIN with the features I am adding?

What selection does he make for the equalizer setting? My truck wasn't listed as an option so he selected a Tahoe, which figured would have the same wheelbase as my truck (1500 crew cab w/short bed).

When selecting the navigation part number the once listed above wasn't available. Does this matter, which one should he use?

Any help would be appreciated since I am now lost without navigation LOL!

Ok, I'm going nuts.

I have installed the new VCIM & XM unit. They work great (except the OnStar programming hasn't been done yet).

Now back to the Nav unit debacle. I have found out, according to the dealership, that I do not have an amp, Y91, so this is not included in UQA. However, from what I have read the nav unit should still turn on it would just be quieter. That is not what is happening in this instance. The nav unit isn't showing theft-lock and won't respond to input on the buttons.

The dealership says the nav unit, p/n #20883054, has been programmed with my vin, but was from a GMC Acadia (how would they know this? I bought it off eBay from someone who said it was new and never provided the dealership with a VIN, I don't know what vehicle it came out of). Furthermore, they say that it is programed for the middle-east and cannot be reprogrammed for my vehicle because the options aren't available in the Tech-II?

HELP PLEASE.

Don't know what came of this, but that part number does not decode in my system, so it may be a Middle East unit, which will not work in the U.S. Vehicles.

If someone else comes across the same problem and finds this thread, you need to use a VIN # from a loaded vehicle of your make that is new enough to have all the features you want to use, and program it with your SPI codes including anything you upgraded to prior to installing the NAV. If you take it to a tech and they don't know how to do the install or haven't done one before, take it somewhere else. Better yet, call around first.

I just got thru installing a kit with part #20883054 and so far everything is working fine. I hate to jinx it, but it was almost too easy. Tech had only done one other unlock, but was willing to listen to me and my research from the experts on this board. I gave him a loaded vin number, he wrote down the stock program codes, then added the codes to my vin number, took 20 minutes. The only issue I have seen is the nav pointer that represents the car always points to the right, and in my wifes 2007 hummer, it always points towards the front of the car...I dont know if this is a problem or not....there were no instructions with the vss kit...I did the best I could from posts here.
If I had it to do over again, I would only buy from Schram auto parts for the simple fact of them posting in this forum and trying to help others....in this day and age this kind of support is priceless. If I had seen their posts before I bought off ebay, their auctions would have been the only ones I looked at.
Thanks

Sounds like your VSS might not be installed correctly, I'd check the connections. Thanks for the plug, we do what we can to help!
