2008 Chevy Silverado 1500 Cruise Control Problem
Hello Guys and Gals,
I have a 2011 Chevy Silverado that the cruise control lights up (amber light) but does not show up on the control cluster (speedo). I can push the button to see it turning on and off but the dam thing will not engage and set the speeds etc.
Does anyone know how to fix this? or what potential part this maybe?
Thanks !!!!!

Cruise control problems
I just purchased a brake light switch on Rock auto for $8.45 plus $2.60 for shipping! Be here in 2 days, for $11.05! Not bad
Thought it was the multifunction switch on the steering column. Purchased for $30.08 and it was a GM part! But wasn't the problem. So going this rout! Thanks for all the information guys

thanks! Read the thread and replace brake switch. $25 part and fixed in parking lot of OReileys auto parts. Took about 15-20 min. Removing metal clip was hardest part of process. Similar issue as everyone described. Light on steering wheel came on and brakes like work but cruise control didn’t engage.

I have the same issue with cruise control...light comes on dash, but does not engage. all brake lights work as they should. The answer about replacing the brake light switch requires knowing if you guys had brake lights working before you replaced the switch.
If your cruise did not work, and you had no brake lights, that is a no brainer. If you fixed the cruise by replacing the brake light switch, did you have brake lights before you replaced the switch??? If you can tell me for sure that you had brake lights, but the replacement of the switch fixed the cruise, then I will buy the switch and install it. thanks in advance for your help.

I have replaced my brake light switch, and the cruise control still does not work so I am looking for more information beyond this step to look at.

Yes my brake lights worked. Being as the brakelight switch is a multipostion switch and the last position is when the brake pedal is all the way up and that allows the cruise to work. Previous postions engage the brake lights. The least little pressure on the brake pedal will disengage the cruise control, but not engage the brake lights. Then as more pressure is applied the brake lights come on. So if for some reason your brake pedal is not ALL the way up the cruise will not work. I used the toe of my left foot to pull up on the brake pedal (while driving) and engage the cruise.
That worked for me sometimes. I have replaced my brakelight switch 2 times, and each time it fixed the problem. I am told there was few bad batches. Also try taking the new one off and work it back and forth. Check to make sure your pedal return spring is not weak or is being blocked by something. If none of that works, I don't know how to help you.
