I was curious. I'm getting ready to purchase a 2008 silverado short bed, auto with a V6, that does not have cruise. Say I purchase a replacement truck computer from a truck that had the same motor that also had cruise control. Could you not just put in the replacement computer in my truck and install an OEM steering wheel with cruise control on it? Am I crazy or is there something I'm missing?

Hi Jake,
If I remember correctly, when the 2007's came out, a local GM dealer could call GM with info from your trucks computer get the needed firmware and download it into your trucks computer and at that point an aftermarket switch kit or factory steering wheel would work. Unfortunately I guess GM decided that they no longer wanted to do that. The cruise kits that followed shortly after didn't work well. The current kit by Rostra has worked very well and is almost plug n play. We have them available on our web store shop.aftermarketspecialists.com

I know this is an old post, but I just bought my 2008 silverado and would like to add a few things to the truck. The first thing I wanted to add was cruise control, but after reading this post and many other boards, I am seeing that the simplest way to do so is to add the aftermarket kit. I was wondering, can the aftermarket kit be utilized but also use the oem controls instead of the stick that you have to mount to the steering wheel? No offense, but I don't care for the look of the current aftermarket stick. Thanks
