2009 Chevy 2500HD four wheel drive issue....

Hey there, i just purchased within the last month a 2009 chevy 2500hd LT, trucks runs like new but for the first time i took it to my hunting club and got a little stuck on a logging road. when in four wheel drive high or low if i don't keep the RPM's below or around 2000 the tires would spin rpms would rise then all of a sudden the RPM's would jump up and the truck would seem to loose drive until it dropped below 2000 rpms then drive will reengage.. is this normal? or do i have and issue!!
