Looking to buy a 2011 silverado 4x4 z71 crew cab but was shocked when i saw the rear drum brakes. I thought it was a step backwards for gm to go back to drum brakes. I currently have a 2004 gmc sierra 4x4 z71 ext cab with four wheel disc brakes with no problems. My question is any one with drum brakes on the newer model vehicles have any problems? Its the only thing that's holding me back from buying right now. Thanks

 

Cheaper to make, shoes last longer than pads, harder to get stuff stuck in. I'm sure there was a reason they went back to drums. My 2010 has drums and after 20000 miles i have no complaints, plus they only do about 25% of the stopping vs the fronts anyways.

In all, i have no idea why they went back, but i guarantee you wont be able to tell a difference from drums to discs if you didnt know the difference

Drum brakes have worked for years so Why fix it if it is not broke. My 2006 has drums in the back no complaints here.
