Silverado, Sierra & Fullsize Pick-upsThe Silverado & Sierra have been two of the best selling trucks in the US for decades, and is truly proven to be "like a rock".
Anyone heard of issues with the 6.6 gas engine in the 2500 HD? Mine came with a cracked cylinder head and no parts are available… GM corporate customer service is not helping at all. Been sitting at the dealer for two weeks with no parts available. Looking up under the vehicle, this is what I saw Looking up under the vehicle I saw coolant leaking out of the hole in the rear of the cylinder head.
I’m not aware of any specific problems with the heads, but the lack of parts availability is an unfortunate side effect of the covid pandemic. Many parts that were once readily available are now back ordered due to lack of production during shutdown.
I was actually reading an article about this problem just the other day. Go figure I can’t find it now but it explains how a few decades ago, Toyota began utilizing a parts supply strategy known as “Just in Time” manufacturing. The basic idea was to reduce waste and warehousing space by only stocking enough parts to build cars for a determined amount of time (one month, for example) and then ordering the next shipment so the parts arrived “just in time” to continue production. This eventually became the model for nearly all manufacturers.
If you Google “just in time manufacturing” there’s all kinds of info that comes up - but what I took away from the article is we can all blame Toyota for situations like this.

My truck has been at the dealer for a month with a cracked cylinder head and no parts to fix. It seems GM has parts for new truck assembly, but will not take a part off the line to fix their quality issue with my truck.
I just heard there is a computer chip shortage that will force the truck assembly line to stop production. Maybe I can finally get a cylinder head that is sitting while computer chips are being made.
GM customer service is no help.
