ok.. i have a single cab 2005 2wd 1500 5.3.. and a buddy of mine has the same truck with a 4.8.. and he thinks he can outrun me.. now i dont know how much of a difference there is between the two motors.. so i wanted to ask and see.. whats the power difference? and is a 5.3 just a bored out 4.8? and kinda off subject how do you tell the difference between them just by looking at them?

 

There is no way to tell the difference between the engines by just looking. The difference is the 5.3 has a longer stroke and the computer is tuned different. As far as a power there is a 15HP difference. A race between the two would be determined by the driver and gear ratio.

 

if the gears, style of truck, tires, and wheels are all the same, then the 5.3 should be able to edge the 4.8.

the 5.3 has either 295hp and 335lb ft of trq or 310hp depending on if you have the HO 5.3 or not.
the 4.8 has 285hp and 295lb ft of trq.

the 4.8 is a joke in a truck except as a freeway cruiser.

you cant look at them and tell the difference.
