There is a 2009 1500 Silverado with a 4.8L engine that I'm looking at possibly purchasing. I just don't know if the engine is big enough to safely tow my two-horse bumper-pull aluminum trailer (3000lbs) with 2 horses (1,200 lbs each) over long distances. I don't know the gear size. What are your thoughts? Thanks!!

 

It'll tow fine but the gearin is a big factor. You'd want 3.73s and least. Fine a 5.3 with 3.73s and it'll better suit your needs

 

Tow package? my 4.8 with 3.73's will out run/ pull the 5.3l all i did was a valve train upgrade for high end endurance. I think the most i have had was 13K, it was having problems but with 7k it was totally fine.
