Default 4 Wheel Drive Problems

Having trouble with push button 4 wheel drive, Push 4x4 hi button all it does is flash 5 times . I hear the actuator motor in the transfer case but does not seem to engage .Could it still be the actuator ? Could it be the one in the front axle ? Do not think its the axle one since it is not engaging at the transfer case .Anyone have any ideas where i should start?
Thanks

Start with grounding wires under drivers door outside frame looking forward. Clean untill all have bare metal, then tighten securely. Clean all connectors on T/C, forward axle and dash switch. Had same problem but once all cleaned problems went away. Good Luck
