I did not get any paperwork with 99 Suburban. How do I go from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive and back? I have the one with controls on the dash.

That's true, all you have to do is push the button.
Engaging 4hi is usually no problem.
However, and mostly because of non/little use,
going into 4lo can be very slow, or it may not change at all.

Try above, and let me know if you can't get 4lo, if not then
I'll talk you through a procedure to possibly make that happen.

 

if it has a message displayed there will be codes, most low end scanners only scan the ecm which may be why you're not getting any

 

I tried to shift in to 4lo and hi bit none worked. I also tried to engage while car wasn't turned all the way on... Please if you can walk me through it would be greatly appreciated during the blizzard that hit NYC 2 days ago...

if theres a message for service 4x4/awd then the system is most likely disabled, can't help a whole lot through the computer without knowing what the codes are
