8.1 allison combo

RE: 8.1 allison combo
What size is the 8.1? Do you know? I think if I remeber right a 7.4 or something around that is a 454. If it is a gas engine you will probably not have all that good of gas mileage.
If you get a 6.6 Duramax you can get a lot of power out of that. You will have to spend some money but your mileage will probably be better. You will have to do some checking to see what you can do and want to do to a Duramax. But they are good engines to begin with anyway. My opinion if you want a pickup that heavy and want to pull with it you would be better off with a 6.6.

The 8.1 is 496 cid I believe. I am currantly running a 03 F350 v10 4 sp auto. and getting 12.5/15 empty. I know a lot of people like the dls but I am a gas engine man all the way.

I like gas too. But when it comes to pulling that can make a big difference. I also know you can get a lot of power out of a desiel. Ford, Dodge, or Chevy. The MPG should be better too.
That is a big engine, but is would seem to be a big gas hog to me. (could be wrong thought)

Thats a fact big CID gas engines are thirsty, and with 3.00 a gal gas you have to learn to keep your foot out of them( takes away some of the fun). But when you take out the initial cost, maint. and fuel (dsl not as cheap as it used to be). the difference is not that great. I am NOT trying to start a gas dsl war it's just big CID gas engines are my choice. while I have not driven a 6.6 I have spent time behind a CTD and PSD and I am one who can not get past the turbo lag. Most of my work is farm related so I don't do long trips under load but I do haul/tow 10K lbs plus and need the grunt to make her go.

RE: 8.1 allison combo
My brother in law has one like that. A 2005 K2500 8.1, allison, 3.73 gears, extended cab, long bed. We've compaired mileags because I have a 1997 K2500 454, manual 5 speed, 4.11 gears, extended cab, long bed. I have gotten as high as 14.2 on my 454. He has gotten 11 for a high, and he gets 7 and 8 pulling a 30 foot 5th wheel camper. Hope that helps
