I hope some one can help me here that has replaced an Air Conditioning Compressor. I have a 1991 C1500 5.7 ltr. that had the old R-12 system. I removed my old AC system, cleaned the lines, and replaced the components. Its all installed, ready to fill, except the electrical connection on the new compressor does not match the OEM connection coming from the engine. I did buy an aftermarket compressor from Advanced Auto Parts. Its a ToughOne brand. Has anyone had this problem? Perhaps my compressor was supposed to come with an adapter? Any help would be appreciated!

 

You are going to have to call Tough1 and ask them. or website.

 

Yep. I'd guess they have a direct connector to plug in.

 

If the compressor looks like your old and has the same number of wires, then you can take the plug from the old one and splice into the new one. Just be careful you put the wire or wires to the correct terminal. That's what I usually do when that happens.

 

The way the compressor is built there is no way to splice to it. Just has the connector built into the assembly. I did find a adapter today at a local auto parts store, but the compressor still won't turn on. There is no freon in the system yet so that could be the reason why though.

 

If you jumper out the low pressure switch, the clutch should kick in. Don't let it run without freon for any length of time or you will have to replace it again.

 

Make sure you put the proper oil, and amount in it also. I'd try to shove a can into it, or as much as it will take before you jumper the switch.

 

OK, I had the system vacuumed and filled. Cold air again! How well does the blower blow air in the 91 trucks? All three speeds work, but even on high, it just doesn't have that much output. the blower motor is plenty loud, so I know its moving down there, but just doesn't seem to blow that hard. Even on high, on a hot day, it just doesn't blow enough of that cold air into the cabin to cool it down. Wondering if thats just how it was back in 91, or if i should go get a new blower motor.

 

get a new blower motor. might be dirt on the fan blades, limiting air flow or just a worn out motor.

 

Don't overlook the blower motor resister.
