97 k1500 started on its own now wont start at all

97 k1500 started on its own now wont start at all
My 97 k 1500 cheyenne started by itself yesterday and today i started it up it was making a bad grinding/ whining sound. It went away i drove to worl and when i got there i shut off my truck and tried to start it again . It didnt turn over or anything. Radio and lights came on but that was all. Plz help! Any imput is greatly appreciated
