Question 97 sierra 2500 vortex

hello everyone im new to the forum...and im need some help on what is wrong with my truck...in the mornings when trying to start it wont start and you have to prime it with gas and it fires right up and will start the rest of the day...ive had the pressure check to see if the fuel pump is working right and the pressure is at 50 pounds and them goes to 60 pounds after starting...ive ask 3 mechanics and have 3 different answers...one is wanting to put a new fuel pump on it...but im really thinking it is the relay switch...any help would be great..i dont want to spend money on something that dont need to be replaced...thanks so much

Hey there my dad's 2500 had the same issues and it was his relay switch so you could be right but many factors can play into it so maybe someone a little more seasoned than me could give you better advice but your diagnostic doesn't seem too far off. Hope this was a lil help good luck.

That mechanic of yours is probably on the right track. The fuel pressure should be 60-66 psi with key on, engine off. So, it's probably between the fuel pump and the fuel pressure regulator. A weak fuel pump is when you can start the engine after turning the key on, letting the fuel pump prime, turning the key off, and then repeating the on-prime-off sequence a few more times.
