97 Siverado 5.7 Vortec running 'BAD'
Long story short....
Truck was running fine. Had just dropped over $600 in a tune up. Let a friend borrow it to go to the store. Hour later he comes walking up. Truck just died on him and won't start....have to have it towed home.
Turns out the rotor on the distributor came off while he was driving. Replace cap, rotor and sensor on distributor. Starts now but runs like crap. Starts fine, idles ok, but give it gas and it spits and sputters and can't rev it up all the way. Driving it gives same results. Replaced timing chain....no better.
So today I put it on a MatcoTools CAN400 OBD II Scan tool.

Thankyou in advance for any and all help/info.

You need to have a scan tool that can read cam retard. It is the only way to see how far off the distributor is. The cam retard spec is 0 +or-. The cam sensor is the piece inside the dis you replaced. I would only use a part that came from the dealer for that. Many aftermarket primary ignition parts do not work.

Well, I can definetly get the cam sensor from the dealer. But the scan tool is another story. Just gonna have to put it in the shop to get the timing done as it will be much cheaper on me that way.
