Default 99 Chevy Squeal

I have a 99 Chevy Siverado 1500 4x4 with the 5.3. I changed the sepentine belt and now something is squealing. It gets louder as the enging rpms increase. I took the belt back off and checked the pulleys. The alt made some noise so I replaced it. It still makes a lot of noise and I am running out of ideas. I took the idler pulley off and that seems to be fine. I have sprayed wd-40 into the idler pulley and it seems to go away then comes right back. I think, if anything, I will replace the idler pulley and see where that leaves me.

Any help would be great.

Thanks,

Jesse

hey jesse,
i know fords and chevys are different. but i replaced the serpentine belt on my friends ranger and when the truck revved up the squeak was really loud and irritating. it ended up being the wrong belt. hopefully you took the old belt with you to the parts store to match up width, length, and ribs on the belt. just a thought. good luck

Just to make sure it was not the wrong belt I reinstalled the old belt and I had the same squeal. I ended up changing the idler pulley and the squeal went away.

Thanks,

Jesse
