Angry 2007 Chevy Suburban LTZ high pitched squeal/squeak....

Just bought this truck today and had it checked out by the GM dealer before purchasing (private seller). Everything checked out great except the technician told me the rear brake pads would need to replaced soon. He even commented me on finding one with 73k mis in such good shape. Well, Everything was great until I got near my home and noticed a loud high pitched squeal coming from (I think) the front drivers side. It was loud enough to hear over the radio. Then like magic I drove over one section of the road which had just been freshly resurfaced and everything was silent. The squeak/squeal gets worse when I turn the wheel to the left like when switching lanes. When I hit the brakes the squeal stops instantly as well. Whats going on??

It's probably the brake pad wear indicator. One of the brake pads has a little metal tab that touches the rotor once enough pad material is used up. It makes the squealing noise that goes away when the brakes are applied and everything tightens up.

Thanks alot man, I guess that makes sense being he said the rear brake pads were about ready to be replaced. The only thing is, it sounded like it was coming from the front especially when I make a lane change .. I'm gonna drop it off at the dealer tomorrow and I'll post what I find out..

Nickz0514,

I agree that it could be your brake pad wear indicator. I see you are going to take it back to your dealership for another look. Please let me know if they get the issue fixed. If not, I will look into this further for you.

Thank you
