When I look for parts for my '99 K1500, a lot of times the site will assume I'm looking for the 99 1/2" (newer body style). Is it safe to say that nothing really changed from '98 to '99? So then I can just choose '98 for my year, and all the parts should work? I just got the truck a few months ago, and this info will be very useful.

 

if truck is indeed same style as 98, and still has the 5.7, not 5.3l engine, then yes, using 98 is fine.

 

yep, it's got the 5.7. thanks! i kinda figured as much, but didn't want to be surprised later. speaking of the 5.7, is there much to improve gas mileage? i put in a k&n filter (not CAI), but i heard that could actually decrease mpgs, but so far haven't really noticed a difference. i also changed the plugs with ACDelco iridiums and changed the fuel filter. i'm getting about 10 mpg, and i read somewhere i should be getting closer to 16. i suppose most of my driving is in town, so that doesn't help...but is there anything else i can do? the fan clutch may be sticking a bit, so i may be replacing that, or looking into an electric fan conversion.

 

V8'S have a pretty big difference from highway to town driving. 10 mpg in town isn't bad. my 98 with injector upgrade, performance ignition, cai, gets 17-18 on highway, never checked city. a high flow exhaust system, or at least cat back exhaust, would help. performance ignition wires, seafoam injector cleaner. could also change rear gears, but that's a bit spendy. 10+ city, 15 or so highway is pretty decent for these rigs for most part.

 

i've done the seafoam thing a few times, but i have definitely thought about an exhaust. thanks for your input!
