Im about to buy a very nice looking Silverado, w 79k miles. The asking price is 14.9k
The truck is a 5.3L 2001, a 1500HD. However, it has Z71 AND SS badging. Am I missing something, or is this correct? Was there a sort of "SS Package" that upgraded a few things, maybe even a supercharger, instead of the SS 6.0L that came out in 2003?

Or is this fake badging? The guy is the original owner and I don't see him as the type to put on fake badging. Anyone know?

SS badges was added.

There were no SS Silverado's available until 2003 model year and only available with the 6.0 engine.

Still could be a nice truck though.

That truck only books out to around $7,000....the seller is dreaming

 

$14900 sounds high for a 12 year old truck.

 

1500hd with a 5.3? And he calls it a SS? Dudes out of his mind with that price. And usually HD trucks that weren't a diesel are 6.0s. Z71 badges were also added because a HD truck didn't come with z71 packages. Only 4x4.

 

Way too much money! If you can get the price down - probably well below 9k, then you would be in the "ballpark" for what that truck should be worth.

Go to Kelley Blue Book ( Official Kelley Blue Book New Car and Used Car Prices and Values ) and see what a "private seller" might get for such a truck. No bank will give you a 14k loan for a 12-year-old truck, unless perhaps you put down a HUGE amount of money.

 

Until recently, I never knew that there was such a thing as a 1500HD. I always thought they were in the 2500 and 3500 line - but did see one not too long ago. It had "1500HD" on the side and had the wheels with eight lugs, rather than six (like my 1500). I wonder if it was available with a diesel like the 2500.

Is there any way for me to look when I go see the truck and tell whether this truck is an official 1500HD instead of the Z71/SS that he says it is? This is the only way for me to negotiate with him, because as you know, people will lie until proof is in front of their faces...

During the 2001 model year,Chevrolet did offer a 1500HD model truck.

Only was available with the 6.0 engine and Crew Cab-short bed-2WD configuration.....

So the truck in the add is definitely not one of those,especially with the E-bay "SS" emblems and no Z-71

Also looks to be highly modified and probably led a hard driven life.
I would look elsewhere unless you could buy it for less the $6,000 tops.

Again, count the wheel lug nuts. If it has eight, it is an HD truck and thus cannot be an "SS" at all. The SS will have six lugs......if they even made an SS in 2001 (which I doubt).

Look for holes drilled in the bed where a "fifth wheel" could have been mounted. That indicates HEAVY towing - not necessarily a bad thing, but a sign that this truck may have had some hard mileage.

Not sure about the Z-71 option being available on the 1500HD, but you can view the build codes on the inside of the glove box. There will be several of them that indicate the options with which your truck is equipped from the factory.

lifted black 2006 chevy 1500 ext cab pick up

1999 GMC with 112k miles and a 5.3l engine, cool thing about this one is it has the 35 inch tires AND 4:56 gearing, the other two trucks have the lift and large tires but stock gearing. It is listed for 10.7k, but only books out to 7.5k....lets assume I get it for 7.5k

And then of course the bogus SS truck that is all leather and looks to be very well taken care of....blue books out to 12k, lets assume I can get it for 11k
