2001 Silverado
I know this has been touched on here but 3 of the AC buttons do not iluminate at night my Chevy dealer told me that it could not be fixed because they are LED. But I saw some other post that looked like guys were able to replace them. My question is how do you remove the buttons and now to go about the repair.

I am not familiar with your particular model but you would have to solder the new LEDs on, you would have to find them on your own too. The dealer just replaces parts & modules basically, I dont see them doing alot of solder repairs, thats why they just want to replace the whole thing. They will just sell your old one to a third party remanufacturer or thier factory and they repair it then and sell it cheaper than the dealer at local stores & the internet. But , thats mostly alternators ,water pumps & such.

Would buying a service manual help? I am not a mechanic but I do like to tinker some.

 

I doubt a manual would have detailed repairs like that. Its easy to do , you just have to know what you are doing. There are a few people here that do LED conversions that might be able to help you with this.
