Default AC (Direct- vs. Recirculating Flow)

Hi,

Is there a fuel efficiency by using the AC with direct airflow (air from outside) or with recirculating airflow...? How can I keep my 2008 Chevy Silverado as "Recirculating Airflow"...? Each time I turn-off the engine and back one, the setting goes back to Direct Airflow.

I don't know the reason for it, but they all do that. I'd like for it to be left as I set it.

I always thought it was safety issue so you don't leave it recirculating all he time and have bad air (carbon monoxide or whatever) in the cab that doesn't get out fast enough.
