A/C on while recirculating only fan running?

A/C on while recirculating only fan running?
I recently purchased an 2001 5.3L Ext Cab Silverado, and while the recirculating fan only is running (A/C switch is not on {not illuminated}) the A/C is still in operation. I am not familar with the electrical system yet, but there appears to be a short or stuck relay which kicks the A/C unit when the recirculating fan switch is illumininated. Puzzled.
