I am looking into buying a truck and truck camper. Went to a camper place where they seemed to know what they were talking about. Spoke highly of the Silverado 2500 HD. Seemed to think all years were good going back quite a ways. Do people here agree?

I have an 2005 Silverado 2500HD, 6.0L and I pull a 11K fifth wheel RV. I've had no problem pulling my rig, with some exception to long steep mountains. For this I simply choose my route wisely. You should get a tow vehicle that will compliment the trailer it will most likely pull, which all fall onto how much does the trailer weigh.

you won't need a diesel for a 8000 lb trailer, unless you just want to throw on average $7000 away. This is the average cost difference for a gas burner and diesel. Another factor you should consider is how ofter you'll tow. I've seen where they put all the 3/4 ton trucks to a tow off, a diesel only gets 3-5 mpg more than my gas truck...it would take many miles of towing for the diseal to "pay for itself". A silveado diesel may get 11-12 mpg versus my 9 mpg...just do the math
