I need to replace my fuel pump on my 01 Silverado. Anyone replaced one yet that could give me a heads up on anything I might run into? Thanks.

 

Find a small garage with a friendly owner who will use his lift and transmission jack to drop the tank for you. That will save you a lot of time, effort, and frustration.

 

if you are looking to do this yourself, consider taking the bed off. minus the bed, the tank and fuel pump are very accessible.

 

I repaced the Fuel pump on my 2000 z-71. I removed the bolts that hold the bed on and used a hydrolic jack to raise the bed. I raised on side then blocked it up and then raised the other side. I went back and forth until the bed was high enough to reach undr. Be careful as this could be dangerous. A few month later I help my son change the fuel pump on his 2001 F-250. This time we raised the bed high enough to clear the rear bumper. We then lifted the rear of the bed and placed a 2x6 between the frame and the bed. We slid the bed away from the cab on the 2x6's until we could reach the fuel pump.
A good alternative would be to have about 6 helpers to lift the bed off and set on saw horses. If you have a good sized tree or access to an a frame for pulling engines that and a come-a-long could make the job a little easier. I believe the labor at a local repair shop was going to be $ 450.00.

I you onn a chevy pickup most all of have some experience with changing a fuel pump.

My 2000 model obs when out at 45K, GM dealer changed it for $600. Just can not tell you how proud I am of my chevy pickup.

But hey got it fixed and it's still running at 81K so much to be thankful for.

Guessit worn the fuel pump out pumping fuel at the rate of 12 mpg.

 

Well I did it yesterday took about 3 hours. I lowered the tank with two floor jacks onto blocks below. If I have to do it again I think I could get it done in about 1 1/2 hours since I know what to expect now. Mechanic wanted almost 800.00 to do it 400.00 of it was labor. I bought a Delco pump for 340.00 so I saved about 460.00 bucks!!!! Yipee- trucks starts right up now like new.
