i have an 03 silverado 5.3 4x4. this afternoon when i started it, it started knocking/ticking and i cant figure out what it is. i noticed that when i give it a little gas it white smokes. what the #&!! is wrong with my truck? any help would be appreciated...

 

Check teh oil, check coolant. How many miles? Has it been overheating? Any codes?

 

probably need a new engine

 

it has about 60k on it. does have oil in it. uses coolant for some reason. stays around 200 degrees and its not throwing codes.

 

If it's using coolant, but is not leaking externally, it's going into the engine. If the oil isn't milky, you may need a intake manifold gasket, with it knocking, the motor might be effed because of coolant getting into the motor.

 

i talked to someone yesterday and they told me these trucks have hydraulic lifters and roller rockers and they sometimes stick. also, i started the truck again and let it run and the knocking left. thats when i was told about the lifters and rockers
