Best oil for 2006 Silverado?
Just bought a 2006 Silverado with the 5.3. I was wondering what type of oil I should switch to when the oil needs changed? I was thinking Royal Purple. Thoughts?

5w30, whatever brand you want. I run 5w30 Full Synthetic Pennzoil throough mine, and will keep running that. thought bout Amsoil, but I change my oil at 5k no matter what. Royal Purple is a high quality oil though, and there is nothign wrong with running it.
Just stay away from Fram filters, if possible. I run Fram, but I need to stop.

Hi BBrock293,
Welcome to the Chevy Forums.
This is a tough call, and mostly governed by personal preferences.
I think the two things we all can agree on here, is
1. A good name brand oil filter. Avoid Fram and discount brands.
2. Any good name brand 5W30 oil rated SG or SH minimum.
Synthetic oil is going to get expensive, unless you're willing to go the extended change intervals for which they are designed.

I have always used dino oil in my trucks and have had no problems at all. Currently I use Castrol GTX, but as was mentioned, as long as it's API approved and of OEM vis, there shouldn't be a problem.

My 2006 1500 5.3L burns oil in between oil changes no matter what type I use. I have used AMS oil Pennzoil and what ever the dealer uses. The dealer says the 5.3L burns 1-2 quarts every 3,000 miles and that is what happens no matter what oil I use. any suggestions?
