new air filter will help a little bit, airaid jr. intake tube will help more, and a custom tune will help the most. went from 12.5 to 16 on my last tank and I've done all these mods. but also you can't drive like a bat out of hell and expect to get good gas mileage

Cleaning the carb intake
Engine not running. Remove the lid from the filter housing and loosen what appears to be a large hose clamp on the carb. The large air filter housing hose will slide off the carb. Place a rag under neth the throat opening to catch overflow. You will then use the aerosol cleaner to spray into the throat of the carb. and watch for all the grime to begin to flush out. Avoid hitting ant electric sensors directly. Some wiping with a clean rag will help. Operate the throttle with your hand clean the butterfly valve area in the carb throat. You will be amazed at the amount of grime that will come out of there if never done before. Put it all back together with a new air filter and your done. That is the general idea. You should find similiar directions on the can. It is intake cleaner not carb cleaner.
Mechanics will charge $100 to do this simple procedure. I have done this several times after learning how much it helps. I initially learned it after my wifes Yukon XL began bogging down at take offs. This crured it. May help your situation. It is worth a try.
Hope this helps! Alot of words for such a simple procedure. Potential big pay-off in mpg. Increased my Z71 from 14 back about 17mpg.
