Default black smoke?

while drivin yesterday I had a car cut me off so for the first time in a while I punched it, my girlfriend who was following me called me and said that when I hit it, black smoke puffed out my pipes. I did a lot readin and heard it could be the EGR valve or the fuel pressure regulator but how do I know for sure? any help is appreciated

It means that you were running rich (more fuel than air) which would make sense cuz you punched the gas.
The oposite to that would be white smoke which means you are running lean (more air than fuel)
Mine along with thousands of other vehicles do the same thing.
If it is not puffing out black smoke all the time I wouldn't worry about it.

It doesn't do it unless i punch it so i guess its ok right? i was just wonderin if i had to replace a part but if nothings wrong then i wouldn't worry bout it. like i said this was the first time i've punched it in quite some time but it does sound like up front when it was hittin high revs that somethin was leakin like a gasket maybe...im not sure but ill have to check it out. im goin to replace the headers shortly anyways
