Default brake light stays on

Hi everybody, I'm new to these forums. I've been a lurker for awhile and this is my first post.

I have a 2000 silverado 1500. My emergency brake light comes on randomly when I'm driving and stayes on for a while. It happens all the time but the ebrake works fine and the brakes are in good order as well.
My faather and I did some work to the truck a few months ago and when we were finished the ebrake cable had siezed while engaged. He was able to take apart the cable and get it lubed and working again.
The only issue is that I think he was drunk when he did it...
So my question is, what do you (yall) think my problem is?
I imagine its a sensor thing but i dont know how to diagnose it.

Thanks!

It is a sensor on the top of the parking brake pedal. I am on my 4th in the 2003 Suburban.
