Default Cam Eats Distributer ?????

About two months ago my 02 1500 4.3 flashed check engine oil pressure, then it died , after 300$ worth of parts, and a trip to the dealership it turned out to be the drive gear on the distributer shaft was stripped out. The drive gear was replaced, no real explaination as to why it did it, Rule # 1 Doo Doo happens, fair enough, 120K miles, Yesterday the check engine light came on P1345 same code as before, does anybody know what makes a cam shaft eat distributers, is this common to this motor??

I would say the dist gear was the wrong material to match up with your cam. There are two types of cam and gears.

Or . . . something is binding up inside the distributor.

How many miles did you have on the original dist drive gear ?? Was the cam or distributor changed out any time recently that you know of ??

For the cost of having someone else pull and replace the gear you might want to consider doing the whole distributor.
I'm able to do my own and I purchased a rebuilt unit from autozone for my 5.7

It was around a hundred with a new ignition module and lifetime warranty. Just a thought.
