son has 2008 , 2whl drive silverado that I can't get one drum off. usually I can hit with a hammer and the vibration will loosen the drum up but this one I have pounded on for 10 minutes and it will not move. are the two holes tapped in the drum for a puller? any suggestions or tips? thanks

 

What type if axle is it a full floater or semi floater? If it has auto adjusting brake drums then u need to loosen them and if it has ebrake make sure it set if it has cable running into it .

 

its just a little half ton shortbed, its not the brake shoes or the emergency holding them on, they have never been off and the rust is holding them on and like I said I can usually hammer on the outside of the drum and the vibration will loosen them up. I have never used a puller on them and don't know if the two holes tapped into the face of the drum are for a puller? I am looking for some suggestions on what people have used to get them off. thanks

 

How bout blast it with the rust buster of your choosing and send it to it's room for 24 hours and hit it again later

 

Bit of some Aero Kroil or something along them lines, or a lil bit of heat to the face of the drum and pop with a hammer. You prolly know this, but obviously make sure the keepers are off the studs. The two holes should be for a puller, if they are tapped. Worth a try anyway. good luck to ya

 

loosen the adjuster on the brakes

 

use rust penetrate, the holes should fit a 8mm bolt. be careful as you can crack the face of the drum using the bolts.
