Hi,
Just bought a 2009 Silverado 2500HD. I don't need the tires that are on it and would like to put on different ones a little later and in the meantime I would like to drop the pressure down to sensible number lower than 80 lbs in the tires. Is there a way to change the parameters on the TPMS so I don't get the warnings and lights?

You would have to go to the dealer. The are the only ones that MAY be able to re program the computer

 

my 2500 series is a 2000 model obs, has the load range e tires, of course i do not have the tire pressure monitoring system.

The tire pressure was set at 40 psi when i picked it up from dealership (new) all systems were checked (ok) by service tech.

I run the tire pressure at 60 psi, tires wear good at this pressure and your head does not put any dents in roof of cab.

These are tough old trucks, but man they do ride rough with these e rated tires.
i have never put 80 psi in the tires, even fully loaded and towing.

 

You need to go to the dealer (GM) and have them recalibrate the tire pressure sensor thresshold in the RCDRL (remote control door lock reciever). It can be done.

 

My buddy has ford and he got a remote to reset his tire pressure sensors duno about chevy though, however i would say the owners manual should say.
But Guys why buy a 3/4 tons truck when you want to run 1/2 ton truck tires,

i can't see how you can run anything less than 80 psi when loaded and not blow your tires of, mine get hot even when i run 80 pounds all the time.

 

80 Lbs is a little tight for a lot of people, but I love it. Haven't met a curb yet I couldn't jump.(go SLOW if you're going to try this at home, boys and girls)

Also got 75k out of my last set of tires, assume 80 PSI probably had something to do with it.

Parts stores haven't caught up with your Y,M&M yet,OP, but your dealer should have a lower TPMS for you.
