Oddly enough, changing to syn oil made my oil tick/knock louder. Mine was the result of 3 pistons that had worn through the skirting. I'm not sure why syn made the knock more obvious.

I'm not rolling around with a new 5.3 courtesy of GM.

My 02 2500 hd 6 liter has that same noise and I have used both synthetic and conventional oil. 70,000 miles
My neighbor has a 00 2500 6 liter and his engine has the same noise, 150,000 miles.
Sorry I don't have an answer, just know that it may be the nature of the beast.

different engine but same problem.

350 developed a tic, i changed oil, I use 10w30 valvoline, wix filter and added 1 qt of lucas oil stabilizer. Tic when away.

might try draining the synthetic oil and trying this oil combination.

it worked for me, but then i have never used synthetic oil in my engine 90K

no question to me that synthetic has better lube properties than dino oil, but sometimes it can develop other problems since the molecules are smaller.

why did you decide to change to synthetic oil????

Did they use the proper weight? Sounds like a lifter tap. Find a shop that has the newest BG (www.bgfindashop.com) oil flush machine. 90% of the time it will stop a lifter tap and or stop a engine from burning oil, also it is a good maintenance service.
