Default Chevrolet 350 question?

Hi guys,

I am new to the forum and have a question for the guys who know what they are talking about. I have a 1987 GMC Sierra with a 5.7 (350) motor. The motor is Throttle Body Injected. I was driving home with the wife and baby and the truck got hot. I found water in the oil and thought it might be the head gasket. I tore the engine apart and found coolant in #3 and #5 holes. I replaced the head gaskets and fired the truck back up and immediatley found water in the oil again. I believe the engine is toast. [:'(]
I have checked around for a few boneyard motors. One guy is telling me that any year 350 will work as long as I bolt my heads on it. I am not so sure. So, I am asking the forum for your help. Thanks in advance.

Jesse

did you check your heads and block deck for flatness? it could be warped and allowing water to enter the cylinders

I did not check the head or the block to see if they were warped. I am going to change the engine out regardless. It had been using some oil. Might as well fix it right. I am still hoping for a reply about my earlier question. Will my cylinder heads fit on an older 350?

i would not mix and match the 305 heads uses a light weight casting design (they love to crack ) if you can find a good 1970-1977 use the whole thing, your heads are prob cracked .
