Default Chevy K1500 Backfiring wont start

Okay Im having a serious problem with my truck and Im stumped. I have an 88 k1500 5.7 tbi that had a spun rod bearing so i replaced it with a used engine. When i first put the engine in it would idle fine but under load it would sputter and cut out. When i tried to power brake it the engine would backfire through tbi. I replaced the fuel filter, checked fuel pressure (11 psi at tbi), rebuilt throttle body, replaced all vacuum lines, checked for vacuum leaks at the manifold, replaced plugs, rotor, wires, and cap. I tested the egr and it is working fine. I checked the timing chain and the marks line up with very little slack in the chain. I checked the dizzy at TDC and it was 180* out, so i adjusted it and set the timing and it wont start. Im out of time and almost out of money, I really need to get this thing fixed so any help would be greatly appreciated.

So you adjusted the dist and it wont start,,,,better adj. it back where it was. Pull the valve covers and see if all the rockers are moving the same amount.

You said it would run till you changed the dist. If it was 180 out it wouldnt run. What does that tell you? Pull the no. one plug, bump it over till you feel the comp push out the plug hole, alighn the timming marks, and the rotor should be pointing toward No. one plug wire. If it isnt adjust things till it does.

Ah but it will run, if the dizzy is 180* out and the plug wires are backwards it will run but it will backfire through the intake. I have solved that problem but now the transmission is shifting way too late from first to second. What would cause that?

I agree, if it ran in the original position why would you move halfway around? Now it doesnt start at all, what you think cause that? You may not have been off 180*. You were probably off by 10* or so.

Late shifts are a throttle adjustment issue.
