Default Cheyenne slow into drive

My 91 4x4 pickup is going slow into drive from park (one and a half second delay) it shifts beautiful when going down the road in 2 or 4 wheel, which is why I'm puzzled.
Any help would be appreciated

Slow into engagement, especially in cold weather is the first sign of a plugged transmission filter.

Would that cause it to react the same way when it's warmed up as well?
Thanks

Sure,

That's the first place I'd check anyway. Does it do it in reverse also?

No reverse is pretty solid.
