Default considering a silverado for towing

I'm looking at a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 5.3L V8 for towing a trailer that is 6000k (dry weight), I'm looking to get more specs on the truck later on today. I'm going back and forth betwen this and a Dodge 1500 both 4 wheel drive, both already wired for towing, both quad cabs (4 door). though I like the Chevy better, will the Chevy be able to tow my trailer with gear along with me, the wife and my 3 kids in the truck safely?

Thanks

I haul a 4500 lb boat plus fuel, gear, trailer weight, etc. and have no issues. I have a 2005 extended cab z71. I don't know what the 2010 is rated for but you would probably be ok. I would probably want trailer breaks though. I have surge breaks on mine and it gives you a little push every time you stop. I might upgrade to trailer breaks in the future so it's easier on the truck. I would imagine the Dodge will pull about the same as the chevy.

yes the truck will pull everything just fine...i'd upgrade the tranny cooler if you do to help keeps temps down and don't gas it everywhere you go and it'll ok. Trailer brakes help out a ton so i'd invest in a controller for that

Here is the specs of it:
2010 Silverado LT (flexfuel) ext cab
4x
5.3l V8
Factory installed towing package
auto (with manual shift option)
trailer towing button
not sure of rear gears yet

I actually hooked it up to my 27' travel trailer during my test drive of it and didn't even know it was back there. I have the weight distribution hitch and sway bar, I'll have to get the brake controller installed on it.

with the 5.3, bein 4wd and havin the 6 speed tranny i'm willin to bet it has the 3.42 gears so it will pull it just fine...just don't go gassin it everywhere and keep it under control.

the brake controller will be your best friend on long trips

bagged123,

You should be just okay with what you are looking into. I am certain you will enjoy this vehicle. I would definitely purchase one for myself and my family.

Thank you,
Elizabeth, Chevrolet Customer Service

Definitely get the Chevy. I towed a 21'-Walkaround from West Tennessee to Florida in the summer heat, for years with my Suburban 5.3 and no problems at all, though I never did a tranny cooler, I would recommend it. You never said where you live and where you would be towing.

I live in CT and I"ll be going up as to Maine, and down to Orlando, pretty much the east coast, my daughter won't fly, so we bought the camper instead, better vacations (IMO)

Just an update, I went with the Chevy Silverado 1500, picked it up last night, and I must say, I wish I bought one a long time ago. Though it doesn't have what my durango did, but then again my durango couldn't do what this one can and will, so it balances out.
