Default Coolant dissapearing????

As you can tell by my name I have a 2001 2500HD with the 6.0L. My question is why do I keep losing coolant. I lose about a 1/2 inch in the resevoir every 2-3 weeks. There is not obvios signs of smoke so can't tell where the leak may be coming from. I have had it to the dealer and they cannot figure it out either.

Any suggestions????

I haul a 25ft. 5th wheel and am going to be taking a long road trip in Oct. I need to get this figured out.

Thanks,
Chris

There were a few bad cylinder head castings on the 5.3L and 4.8L engines back then but none on the 6.0L that I am aware of.

The most likely cause of coolant consumption is a bad head gasket.

Also you can check the intake gasket at the rear of the engine at one of the rearmost coolant ports, they sometimes only leak under pressure.

There are no coolant passages on the 6.0L Vortec Powerplant intake manifold.

I had a slight water pump leak on my 03 that was never visible or detectable that caused me to lose a similer amount of coolant.

I have a 2002 1500 1/2 ton that started doing the same thing....turned out to be a slow leak in the bottom of my water pump.

If there are no leaks, it may be the cylinder head or head gasket.
