Duramax Turbo Questions
I was just told by my local Chevy dealer that my 2006 Silverado 2500 4x4 duramax has a bad turbo and it is going to cost $2,806 to replace it. The truck runs fine with no unusual noises. The truck has 45,000 miles on it. I was told it is because there is carbon buildup on the turbo vanes. This diagnosis is based on diagnostic codes. The light has been on (occasionally goes off for a while) for a couple years. I question the need to replace the turbo. Any advice would be appreciated.
Just 45,000 miles? That sounds kind of weird.....but not impossible. Every now and then, you do find a bad part or something that fails prematurely. I suggest getting a second opinion from another place that knows a lot about diesel engines of all types.
your turbo noise hasn't changed pitch or anything has it?
I'd struggle to replace a whole turbo for simple carbon buildup. I mean clean it with solvent. wtf?
Yeah something don't seem right, might be worth it to have someone else pull the codes and see what it says without the stealership translation.
