egr issue with motor swap
Hey guys new to the forum, and looking for a little help. Heres the situation i have a 2001 silverado 1500, doing a motor swap. The mootor i have put in is out of a 2003 1500. In the 2001 there is a egr, but the 2003 there is not. so my question is since the wiring harness from the original motor has a plug for the egr selenoid by not having this plugged in will that throw a code and a check engine light, my thought is that it will. Any ideas of what i should do to keep the engine light from coming on. The pcm on the 01 and the 03 are different so getting it reflashed is not an option, but is there a way that the egr settings can be shut off. Any help will be great!!
if they dont have a EGR for 2003 then how do they address this issue of exhaust gas recirculation? There HAS to be an arrangement for EG control on all of these engines. If you can maybe you may have to take the PCM or wiring harness from same truck? If not then there has to be a mount up externally for EGR function.
Have fun with it man, i just did the same exact thing in my 99 silverado 5.3 and put an 04 in it. You tale the egr valve off the old motor, you only need the exhaust manifold that the egr bolts up to, the motor should have bolt holes for it to bolt up to. I dont know if the 03 have it but the 04 has an electric throttle body so if thats the case you will have take that, intake manifold and the fuel injectors because the wire harness will not hook up to the new fuel injectors. But to answer your question, yes put the egr on it, it bolts up the same exact way and everything.
The wiring harness plugged in to all the injectors. To the best of my knowledge in 2003 Chevy got the emissions down and didn't put egr on. If the egr isn't needed I don't want to put the old exhaust manifold and intake on, but there is still the issue of the egr selenoid not being plugged into the harnesses. Is it possible to put a new pcm so the motor doesn't send a code.
Guess i was the unlucky one with the fuel injectors. Yes it's very possible to put a new pcm on there it's all about do you have the time and some money to do it. It is up to you, but i put the egr back on the new motor and it still get usual gas mileage and everything.
