Default electronic 4x4 issue 97k1500

I bought the truck a few weeks ago, and when I got it all the 4x4 features worked, and now not so much. The lights flickers oddly when I hit 4x4 low and then it got itself into neutral somehow and when I pit it in park it made an ungodly grinding noise. I shut it off and let it sit, it started beck up in 2hi and runs and drives. 4hi does not work, it blinks and goes back to 2hi. 4lo works perfectly fine, and the lights work fine too, but it won't get itself into 4hi anymore

Most likely the actuator on the transfer case. The position sensor and motor are both prone to problems. Search for broken wires first though. I live in the country and mice chew through wires and vacuum lines all the time.

For the same price as fixing all that electronic crap you can buy a used np241 and go manual shift.

So I found actuator replacements online for around 70 to 100 bucks, is this a big undertaking to replace?

Also should I be concerned about the t case finding itself in neutral? Buying a new transfer case seems way more pricy than replacing the actuator

I was thinking the cost was around $200. Make sure your looking at the transfer case parts and not the actuator on the front diff.
It's not a big undertaking at all if you're mechanically inclined otherwise I'd let a mechanic handle it.

Make sure if your tcase slips into neutral while the shifter is out of park that you shut the truck off before shifting into park. The trans will be freewheeling and it's essentially like throwing a moving vehicle into park. Nothing good can happen.
