Default Engine issues

I'v got a 2000 chevy silverado 1500 5.3 4X4. While its in park if I put the peddle to the floor it will climb to roughly 3500-4000 rpms and act like its governed but if i slowly press the throttle it will go all the way up to 6000 rpms and top out. It happens when I'm driving on the highway also. I set cruise control at 65 and if i need to pass someone, without turning off cruise control, I give it full throttle and it will go to 3500-4000 rpms and I will lose acceleration, when I let off the throttle it will drop back down to 1500 rpms and the cruise control will try to bring me back to 65 and it will do the same and slow me down even more. I have to turn off cruise control and slowly press the peddle to actually get back up to speed. I was thinking it could be either my EGR Valve or maybe clogged catalytic converters? I dont want to just throw money at it so would like to pen point the issue. If Its the cats Im just going to take them out and replace them with pipe. if anyone has an idea what it could be I'm all ears... Thanks

I can tell you for sure it is not the EGR. I could be the cats though. Un bolt the exhaust from the bottom of the manifolds and try revving it up and take it on a short drive. If it reforms like normal there is your problem. This will cost you nothing to do. Do not start throwing parts at it, usually that cost more then paying for testing.

No check engine light at all and the computers code bank is empty. I removed the cats and replaced them with pipe. It worked, it fixed my problem. I thought it would trip the check engine light by removing the cats but it didn't. Thanks for the replies
