The same thing happened to mine at 24K, under warranty, and 48K, after the warranty expired.

The most likely cause is a faulty seal at your water pump gasket surfaces. Fortunately, the Vortec V8 waterpumps arent that hard to get at, you do need a large strap wrench and a large wrench to get your fan clutch off. Most large parts stores carry all the tools and parts, including the gaskets.

At 48K, I replaced the fan clutch with a lighter unit.(The O.E.M. is a brick.) I replaced the water pump with a new one, added some Premium Hi Temp RTV sealer to the gaskets during re-assembly, and haven't had a problem since.

yeah i had my water pump replaced before and it was a small gasket that was bad. ive heard its the dexcool coolant that dries up the intake gasket that makes it leak internally

Nothing that Fel-Pro gaskets and some good hi-temp RTV can't fix.
