factory radio
If it's a newer vehicle, be prepared to pay your local friendly GM dealer about $100 to program the radio's serial/code number in to the vehicle's computer or it won't work. Anti-theft device, you know.

You don't program the radio.....you program the vehicle's computer to recognize the radio. And, if YOU could do it, so could most thieves, which would defeat the purpose of making them anti-theft.
depending on the year of the truck you may not have to program the radio at all
2003 and up will need programming. pre 2003 will not depending on if the security is turned on within the radio.
To go aftermarket in a 2003+ vehicle, will need parts that'll run you around $150 plus the cost of the radio. You'll need an integration module to make the chime work, as well as provide a 12V accy to the radio, and make the OnStar work(If equipt)

I have an 08 Texas edition Silverado with the stock CD/XM radio non Bose no rear entertainment system. I want to upgrade to the OEM DVD/GPS and XM system. Is part # 19153970 the correct one? What other parts will I need for the install and does the dealer have to program it? Thanks for the help all.
Not for nuthin', mark123, the factory cd player in my 04 Silverado was replaced under warranty, and is going bad again. I can't wait to replace it with a decent aftermarket JVC or Pioneer unit and some real speakers. IMO,Ukrkoz is`right.
