Default Fan switch dying a slow death

About a year ago I lost setting 5 on my fan/blower switch on my 2002 Silverado. Now settings 1 and 2 are gone too. Simply said I'm down to 3 & 4, and there seem to be no difference between them in terms of how much air moves... So, my question is (while I'll probably already be in there to replace lights), do the experts here think it's probably just the switch itself, maybe something more electronic, or should I just give up and save for a new truck?

Thanks in advance....

it's probably the resistor which is located under the dash on the passengers side, near the floor. I just did mine last week, had to do the resistor and the harness, cost a total of 80$, do a youtube search it really helped me out.

Cool. I see some for cheap (perhaps a mistake, but it's a 2002, and it looks like an easy replacement!), so I'll give it a go...

Thank you....

That was it... Woot, working perfectly now! $24 dollars later! Not a perfect fit, but close enough for a 2002 IMO!! and

I have replaced the blower motor resistor in a Grand Prix, Grand Am and my Avalanche. That is what it sounds like to me...

There was a recall for this issue for certain years and models.

I'd hurry to see if you have a chance to get in on it.

BTW, my '04 2500HD has been through the resistor, climate control fan motor, wiring

harness, and climate control unit. But my truck does a lot of long trips,

so the system runs for 16-20 hours at a time.
