Unhappy Front Driver side diff seal?

Hey guys i got a 2003 chevrolet 1500 4x4 and i was underneath it today and noticed i have a leak from the drivers side of the front diff, at a closer look i see a little rubber seal and i am assuming that the seal is shot and is leaking? if you guys have any ideas on what it could be or if i am barking up the right tree please let me know.
Thanks guys

sounds like you're barking up the right tree. the seal is probably inexpensive its just the labor that takes the most time.

Well thats good to know, is it something that can be done with a person who is mechanically inclined and has a decent set of tools? or one of those things that i better just take it in and let them deal with it.

im not too familiar with messing with a front diff. im sure how chevy engineered their front diff system with the transaxles since i think they go into motor im not sure. i'd have to look at my truck. but i will get back to you.

so i went out and looked at my truck. im glad its your drivers side rather than your passenger side because your axle shaft on the driver side is a lot shorter than the passenger side. but anyway.
it looks like this.. and anybody out there correct me if im wrong. but it seems like you'd be able to do it.

take tire off
take brakes apart
pull rotor.
this should expose axle shaft nut.
take that off and there are 5 or 6 bolts where the shaft goes into the diff. pull these. the only thing im not sure about is after this, im not sure how that plate gets removed from the diff than this should expose the seal. if possible could you take a pic or two to post on this thread to show where its leaking?

and maybe this will help a little bit more but your whole complete cv axle connects into the front diff/gear carrier there is a little rubber seal with a lip that comes out only a couple mm farther then the whole case itself and overlaps the whole complete shaft within that few mm. i would assume its a outer seal? maybe this helps? if not i will get pics as soon as i cant but any input from anyone would be greatly appreciated

and here is diffrent vehicle front cv of the drivers side diagram of the breakdown but between number 1(complete cv axle) and 2(the front diff/gear carrier case) there is a rubber seal that i can see that it might be leakin from. here is the link below.

to get the axle shaft removed. you'll probably have to remove the upper control arm from the assembly so its free that way you can bend the axle shaft as needed to get it out and find the seal.mdtahoe would probably be able to help out also.
