I don't know the year of your truck, but I am pretty sure they all work the same. It could be something in your cluster that isn't working but I know on the fuel pump there is a float and this float works on a dial. The dial has many little notches on it and when the float moves it touches the notches and gets a reading. It is not uncommon for however old your truck is that these little notches can break off and the dial can no longer get a reading. It would help if you told use year on this truck to get a more likely culprit. Older truck I would suggest notches but if it is a newer truck I would go more for electrical issues in the cluster.
