Question Gas tank from a V6 to a V8

I have a 1988 K1500 4x4 350/5.7L/V8, the gas tank was shot. I picked up a 1998 C1500 V6 for dirt cheap(blown motor). I'm trying to put the gas tank from the 1998 V6 to the 1988 V8. I got it all wired up and attached. I believe that the V6 fuel pump doesn't put enough pressure out for the V8. I am wondering if I can take parts from the V8 fuel pump and put them into the V6 fuel pump, to make it have enough pressure. The V8 fuel pump will not fit into the V6 gas tank. I am trying to do this without spending any more money.

I took the pump module from the V8 assembly, changed a few things on the inside of the pump assembly on the V6 and made it work for the V8. I'm not sure if I have a wire wrong or not but it says I have 3/4 a tank of gas even though I only have 4 gallons in it. The truck runs and drives now.
