Default gear indicator

I purchased a 2011 silverado 2500hd. The gear indicator shows P R N D M1 1.
I understand that the number next to the M indicates the highest gear available if shifted into the MANUAL mode, but what is the additional 1 that is to the right of that?
My salesman didn't know and the service dept didn't know. It is not affected by the different key fob that is in use or the memory seat setting that is selected.
The example picture of the dash in the owner's manual showed the extra 1 as well, but I can't seem to find an explanation about what it is.

Any help out there?

ezmoney68,

The second “1” that you are seeing means what gear you are in. If you are in second gear then it would show “M2 2”. It should change for every gear that you are able to use in Manual Mode.

Thank you

Your response was incorrect. I finally was placed on a three way call with Chevrolet and my local service advisor. After investigating, the 1 on the far right is simply 1st gear. When shifted all the way down, the truck will remain in 1st. This seems redundant. If placed in M1, the truck will not shift higher than 1st so I do not understand the reasoning behind this position. Neither I, nor anyone I spoke with could find any mention of this anywhere in the owner's manual. Odd, but interesting. I wonder how many R&D dollars went into that feature and why?
